O Krishna

I realize Shelter became a bit silly at the end, but there is no shame in Attaining the Supreme. It hits all of the right notes, especially for the era. It's hardcore. It's emotional. It's Krishna.

I think it's the best thing they ever put out. I'd even be willing to say this is my second favorite record involving Ray Cappo. The first being the final Youth of Today seven inch. But I'd take this over every other YOT release.

Hundreds (OK, Maybe Not)

Every time I think I'm catching up on these posts, I scroll down my "acquisition list" and realize a have well over one hundred entries remaining.

But enough of that.

Even though I don't listen to a ton of Converge anymore, I can still remember the feeling of excitement I had hearing Petitioning the Empty Sky for the first time. "The Saddest Day." What an opener.

Making Do

I'm pretty sure I uploaded Drag Queen because I never found a rip of the seven inch. So the photo will reflect the seven inch. But you'll be getting so much more.

I Need Your

I've decided to pick up every Shelter release. Even the later, often terrible, ones.

First Favorite

This is still my favorite H2O release. Nothing else has really caught my ear.

They were always a fun band to see live though.

Here Goes

I might have posted this. I might not have. I'm too lazy to look. Someone asked for it. So I obliged.

Punchline

This album has always been a hardcore punchline. Even when it was current.

I hadn't heard it since it's release, so I decided to pick it up again for $0.01 plus shipping.

The acoustic tracks are pretty bad. But I don't mind the other tracks. I am a sucker for female fronted indie rock, so I'm probably being overly generous.

Project Kate - ...The Way Birds Fly. Amazon.com. Used.

Albany Style

One King Down came out in an era in which I should have really loved One King Down.

I didn't. In fact I had a number of laughs in regards to their musical output.

In 2011 I find myself enjoying their songs when they pop up on my iPod.

Would this work with Brother's Keeper? I ask myself time and time again. But I am not willing to part with three dollars to find out.

Hang the DJ

People love Refused. People really love Refused.

Love of Refused transcends hardcore. Love of Refused moves into Hot Topic territory. Especially the later releases.

People should listen to Ink & Dagger instead.

But in the absence of that, stick to this era.

Dismissed

I ignored Train Yard Blues when it came out.

It wasn't until I started listening to Skarhead that I paid any attention to Crown of Thornz.

By that point I had trouble finding the discs. I'm still having trouble.

Keeping in mind that my search is not particularly intense.

Now that they have started playing shows again, there seems to be a renewed interest in their output.

I hope they play more shows. And I hope I get a chance to catch one. With little to no travel.

Collecting Compact Discs Like Vinyl but Without the Appreciation in Value

With the exception of vinyl only releases. Tape only releases. Certain rarities.

I consider digital music files to be placeholders.

Filling in until I can track down the compact disc. Stumble upon the compact disc in many cases.

I will then delete the files.

Replacing it with a rip. Direct from disc.

Preferring to own a physical copy. In tandem with the digital files.

A dying notion. Old-fashioned.

It's a Little Embarrassing to Hear "Dress Up" (For Me and Them)

To re-tag every piece of digital music. My digital music. MP3. M4A.

A long-term project.

New media. A new medium. Will likely come along. Before completion.

The items imported to iTunes. A few years ago. These are the most difficult.

Some from burned discs. The tags. Tracks. Not where they should be. The way they should be.

Too many to start over.

Line by line. It has to be.

Bear with me.

They Were Always There

From the first time I saw them. To the last time I saw them.

There have been a lot of changes.

Some good. Some bad.

All of them. A part of me. A part of who I am.

For a while. A long while. Steps back.

Then. Eventually. Moving forward.

Growing as a person.

A Firehall at or Around Five Points

Shift. Prema. Chamberlain. Shortly after Split Lip.

Brian. Mike G. Joined me.

I appreciated that. Not their scene.

I returned the favor. Years later. Phish.

Denise was there. Nicole. Edgely Firehall?

Driving by yesterday. Stirred memories.

Prema played in the middle of the floor. I think. Drivel era. The better era.

Chamberlain looked like cowboys. Trending towards cowboys.

Shift. An exercise in diversity. Always enjoyed Shift. Still do.

Bristol an odd choice. Or Newtown. Or Yardley.

No complaints.

I enjoyed those rare occasions when shows came to suburbia. Saving my sixteen. Seventeen. Eighteen year old self. From parallel parking. Or paying.

Prema - Pebble. Used on Amazon.com.

Hot Topic Didn't Have Shit on Abercrombie and Fitch

People are often aghast that I worked at Abercrombie and Fitch for some time during the 1990s.

It really wasn't that strange.

I was hired because of hardcore. Through hardcore. There were plenty of "regs" or "norms." But a good bit of us were involved in hardcore. Skateboarding. Punk rock generalists. I've heard that term before.

Denise, Ryan, Heather, Ryan, Colin.

It was a good job. Cheap clothes. Little to no work required. Little to no interaction with the general public. Hot girls. Hot "reg" girls.

This is where I learned Prema had turned to art rock. Ryan had never been Krishna. And the Foo Fighters and Cardigans were both pretty awesome.

Prema - Drivel. I am pretty sure this is out of print. If not. My apologies. More people should be hyped on this record. In 1996 it was way ahead of anything else going on in hardcore. For Marcus.
