Newer Sounds

Solid rock. Welsh I believe. Worth checking out.

(Holy shit I'm behind on posts. By the time I'm getting to these they aren't so "new" anymore.)

Trampolene - Under the Strobe Light. iTunes.

I was really excited by "Talkin' Loud" when I first read about the label back in the nineties. But when I started picking up releases I was incredibly let down.

Fast forward twenty years or so and I decided to try again.

Much better. So much so I think I should dig into the back catalog.

Galliano - The Plot Thickens. Used.

Newer Sounds

The first track has this Dischord-esque aspect to it that I find very interesting.

Dead Wolf Club is very good. Highly recommended. They have this very familiar feel - even if I can't say they sound exactly like "this band" or "that band." It works.

Dead Wolf Club - Healer. iTunes.

Newer Sounds

More "Nineties Revival" (for lack of a better term). And I couldn't be happier. Maybe it's the nostalgia in me or the approach to middle age. But I really think the decade (spilling into the late eighties) was a real high point for "indie rock."

Blessa - Between Times. iTunes.

Newer Sounds

A German name and sounds a bit like Joy Division? You know you'll like this.

Autobahn - Autobahn 1. iTunes.

Not Much To Say

I've always liked Leftfield in a casual sense. Any time I've heard them, I've liked what I was hearing.

This is the only thing I've ever managed to buy.

Leftfield - Rhythm and Stealth. Used.

Newer Sounds

Every time I press play all I can think of is Twin Peaks.

It's soothing.

"Marble World" less soothing. Still good.

Silver Fox - Waves On In/Marble World. iTunes.

Newer Sounds

Not particularly new anymore but...

Bloodsports doesn't come close to the quality of the debut, Dog Man Star or the Stay Together EP. But holy shit, it's Suede, so it's still better than most releases.

I actually think it's better than A New Morning, which was good, but a bit underwhelming. I think Bloodsports is as good as the often underrated Coming Up.

I first heard Suede on a family trip to England in 1993. I picked up the debut immediately. Yet in twenty years I still haven't managed to see them. One of my life's great musical regrets.

Their return gives me hope. But it hasn't happened yet.

Suede - Bloodsports. New.

Since a lot of younger bands seem to be channeling the sounds of the nineties, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the return of female fronted indie rock in the vein of Helium, Unrest, Velocity Girl, Tsunami, etc...

I can't be the only one.

Maybe it already exists.

Helium - The Magic City. Used.
