Moving On

For years So Solid Crew (and affiliated) releases would cost me an arm and a leg. Thankfully they can now be found lining the bargain bins of America.

Grime as well.

Your disinterest is my gain.

Lisa Maffia - First Lady. AKA Music. Bargain bin.

Cast Aside

People sell their compact discs for a number of reasons.

They don't like the band anymore.

They are going all digital.

Those are the luckiest days in the bargain bin.

Catatonia - Bleed (Single 2). Long In the Tooth. Bargain bin.

We Built This City

I was always under the impression Jefferson Starship was the transitional band between Jefferson Airplane and Starship.

I didn't know it was originally a side-project of Paul Kantner. And after that the band of the same name.

An interesting album for sure.

Warpaint - Exquisite Corpse. Amazon.com. New.

Hit Singles

Admittedly, I don't know much about The Posies. What I do know is "Dream All Day."

I wasn't lucky enough to find that album in the bargain bin. But Dear 23 has piqued my interest in the band.

Le Kid & Les Marinellis. iTunes.

Tin Roof Rusted

The only B-52's related product I like more than Cosmic Thing is Fred Schneider's "Monster."

Reposts

Underworld - Change the Weather.

Please let me know if a link is down. If possible, I will re-upload. Leave a comment in the post or email me at hedancesfornickels@gmail.com.

If you would like something removed, let me know and I will take it down immediately.

Confusion

I've always confused Einstürzende Neubauten and Nitzer Ebb.

I am aware they are different bands.

And I am aware they have completely different sounds.

That means nothing to me.

Nitzer Ebb - Belief. AKA Music. Bargain bin.

Peaks and Valleys

The only song I remember from Big Thing is "All She Wants Is."

I tend to think of the late eighties as a down era for Duran Duran. Big Thing came out during that time. That's not so say it's a bad era. Or a bad album. But it's not the band at their best.

Then the early nineties came. And Duran Duran was back on the map with Duran Duran.

Duran Duran - Big Thing. Long In the Tooth. Bargain bin.

Texas Is the Reason - Do You Know Who You Are? Amazon.com. Used.

Bleach

I forget where I first read about Birdland. Thrasher. Vox. Select. It was one of the bunch.

They were British. In the nineties that was about as deep as my criteria went.

I eventually found a disc. Possibly when I was in the U.K. I didn't love it. I sold it.

When I saw this EP I decided to give them another chance. I still don't love it. Although I do like them more now. Unremarkable for the most part.

Birdland. Musical Energi. Used.

Specially-Priced Mini-CD

I'm curious what "specially-priced" meant in 1988.

Regular discs ran $15.00 - $18.00.

Perhaps "specially-priced" put it in today's $12.00 range.

Erasure - Crackers International. Musical Energi. Used.

Grown Men

In retrospect it's pretty embarrassing how excited me and my friends would get when "Since U Been Gone" would come on at the bar.

Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway. Amazon.com. Used.

Robyn - Body Talk Pt. 2. Amazon.com. New.

Guesswork

I know absolutely nothing about this band.

The album looked British. The album looked nineties. The album was in a bargain bin.

It was hard to pass up.

Five Thirty - Bed. AKA Music. Bargain bin.

Crisis

I wonder what determined whether you became a Revelation band or a Crisis band.

Similar bands. Similar sounds.

Beginning of the End

I didn't like 13 the first few times I listened to it.

"Tender" went on forever and sounded like "Kumbaya."

Eventually it started to grow on me. It took repeated listens. And the passage of time. It doesn't come close to the albums that preceded it. Although it certainly stands on it's own.

Is it one of my favorite Blur albums? No. But there are a lot of great songs on here. "No Distance Left to Run" is a downer that I'd put in my Blur top ten.

I finally came around on "Tender". It took the Cornelius remix to do so. "Kumbaya" sentiments and all.

Blur - 13. New.

Song 2

It's a shame that this is the song Blur will be remembered for. Forever.

Sports. Advertisements. It continues to have legs.

Variations

I believe there are three covers for this record. I'm not sure about the vinyl. Mine is on black.

For now I'll work on the other covers. They tend to pop up on eBay every now and then.

Along with Missile Command and Asteroid records.

Emmaus

I'm looking for a digital copies of the following demos:

Blindside.
Pinstripe.

Thank you.

To Buy?

My plan was to post a link to purchase Ten Years Strong: A Complete Discography. But I can't find it for sale anywhere.

Out of print?

If it is available anywhere, let me know. I will remove the file.

Atari - Skate Tuff. eBay. Used.

Needs

I read Suede just released a greatest hits package.

I have it all. But I still need it.

Suede - Trash (Single 1). Amazon.com. Used.

Court House

Chad lives in Arlington. It seems like a fine place to live.

Except for the traffic.

And except for Chad.

Student Council

Our student council advisor taught high school history. AP. Honors. And otherwise. He spent his weekends working at an independent record store in Doylestown.

He gave the five of us compact discs for the holidays. One of mine was a Poster Children disc. I traded it with someone for a Erasure disc. That was the last time I had heard them. Prior to purchasing this record.

4AD

A 4AD band I slept on. Perhaps because they were a bit later in the 4AD game. And by later I mean, late nineties. As opposed to the wonderful 4AD of the early nineties.

Justin introduced me to them. The two albums he provided were lost in the great hard drive crash of 2010. Thankfully I had already purchased another. Adding His Name Is Alive to my listen-purchase cycle.

A cycle that is entirely too complex and geeky to publicly discuss.

Unfollow

I stopped following Dannii Minogue on Twitter. I continue to follow Kylie Minogue. I can't remember why Dannii suffered the pain of "Unfollow."

Dannii - Girl. Amazon.com. Used.

Nostalgia

When The Man Who came out I thought it was the best thing ever. For months.

Like a lot of albums, it was eventually filed away. Listened to on occasion. Songs on random.

I really loved that album. I wonder how well it has aged.

I think I'm due for a The Man Who one man listening party.

Travis - Closer. Amazon.com. New.

Repost

This is technically a repost. But now I own the vinyl.

Seaweed - Bill. eBay. Used.

Passed Past

Sugartime was always in the "D.C. box" at the counter of the Newtown Book and Record Exchange. I always passed on it.

Now with the lofty goal of purchasing all Simple Machines' colored vinyl, it's found a home.

Re-Post?

I thought I posted this before. I thought wrong.

I still need a hard copy of this.
