Thanks Tsunami!

Last year I missed an exit going to my friend's house in Arlington. I took the next exit, got somewhat turned around, and I was lost.

Driving around I recognized the Arlington Memorial Bridge from the cover of this record, and managed to use that landmark to get where I needed to go.

Newer Sounds

It sounds so cliche these days, but for fans of My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lush. Check it out.

Never

This is another band that I never really listened to during their "heyday."

I like them. I like them a good bit. But I don't love them. There is something about their sound that doesn't entirely appeal to me. But there is enough there that I keep buying releases.

Window

Moby. 1993 through 1995. That's the real shit. Not that the stuff before or after is bad. It's just not my favorite.

Names

I know they are from Australia. But for some reason any time I see "Jagwar Ma" written out, I assume they're South African. Apparently I read "Jagwar Ma" as Afrikaans?

In the end it doesn't really matter where my brain tells me they are from, contrary to what I know. Because they are very good. On any continent.

Obsessed

When the "Lovefool" video dropped, I didn't think there would ever be anyone hotter than Nina Persson.

Watching it again for this post, I am reminded why I thought that.

Dance! Rock!

I am really enjoying this act from Finland. The single at least.

K-X-P - Melody. iTunes.

(Un)Reliable

I think New Age Records repressed some Trial records a year or so ago. I assumed I would have ordered them. It appears I did not.

Although there is a 50% chance I did and they just haven't been sent.

BMX Bandits

Because their name is Theme Park, I expected them to sound like BMX Bandits.

Terrible logic.

Swing And a Miss

The first time I listened to Trial was only within the past few years. I had friends who loved them, but I had never heard them or bothered to hear them.

At first I thought maybe they existed during one of my hardcore "down times." But they didn't. This release came out when I was fully immersed in that world.

Was it because they were from Seattle? No. I was listening plenty of stuff from the Pacific Northwest.

I just missed it. Missed them as a band. Which I've come to realize was my loss. Because they're pretty great.

New Now Maybe

I really liked this band when I caught their video on NewNowNext.

I like the EP. I don't love it. It's still worth checking out. And I have a feeling it will grow on me.

They've definitely made my future purchase list. As I'm curious for more.

Buying Again

I realized a couple of months ago I wasn't seeking out new music the way I might have five or ten years ago. I was a little disappointed in myself.

So a lot of these posts are just that. Things I've recently checked out. And things you should check out. If you haven't already. Because you're probably ahead of the curve.

(And I checked out this band based solely on the name, which I like to think is in reference to "Tokoloshe Man.")

Well...

This isn't the newest album. But it's a band you should be listening to.

Sorry if you missed them the other night at Johnny Brenda's. They really were quite fun.

Another "New"

This is "new." But my understanding is these tracks were recorded at the same time as Waiting For the Sirens' Call (and I'm probably not alone in saying, my least favorite New Order album).

My concern was that none of these tracks even made it as B-sides. It's not bad. It's unremarkable. But it is New Order. So it's better than 95% of anything else out there.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys in a few months.

D.C.

In the early to mid-nineties I would buy pretty much anything put out by bands from the D.C. metro area.

I was almost never disappointed.
