Lost

Hatebreed lost me pretty early in their career. Under the Knife, the two splits and the Victory LP are fantastic. But I couldn't get into anything after that.

I don't know if it was a symptom of my tastes at the time, or if the newer (post-1997) stuff wasn't great.

Am I missing anything? Should I check it out again?

I've long championed this era of Dischord releases. I think they often get overlooked. They don't seem to have gone through a similar revival in interest that some of the "weird era" Revelation bands have.

Maybe I'm way off base here. But I'm going with it.

I am often surprised by how little rap/hip hop has come out of Philadelphia. And I am by no means discounting the output of Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Bahamadia, The Roots, Eve, The Goats and even Will Smith.

Maybe there is a huge subculture I am unaware of. I'm thirty-five, so there's a very good chance of that. But in the absence of that I like to think the recent success and popularity of Meek Mill will inspire and open doors for more Philadelphia artists.

This is still my favorite H2O release. Nothing else has really caught my ear.

My memory is probably fuzzy. But some time in 1995 I remember going to a house show in Philadelphia with Despair, Frail, Chokehold and some other bands.

The police stopped it before it even began. Which is a shame. Because that was a pretty great 1995 lineup.
