NewNowNext Again

From the same episode as my previous post.

There's something about this band that immediately grabbed me.

So much so I managed to order the EP from Amazon and purchase it on iTunes within minutes of each other. The album art was different. So I'm not entirely at fault here.

NewNowNext

NewNowNext on Logo might be the only Viacom production turning people on to new music. It certainly isn't MTV or VH1.

Rhye - The Fall (Remixes). iTunes.

Generic Answer

Aimee Mann is good. Very good. But I don't think she was ever better than "Voices Carry."

'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry. AKA Music. Bargain bin.

Footnote

In the dark days before the Internet, Thrasher was an excellent source for discovering new bands. It was in an issue of Thrasher that I first read about Therapy? I began to seek out their releases, which at the time, required a lot more legwork than clicking on Amazon and ordering on a whim.  I eventually found one at one of my favorite independent records stores - Newtown Book and Record Exchange, Positively Records, Princeton Record Exchange or some place in New Hope - although I forget which one exactly.

I loved Therapy? They're definitely a good band, and hold up surprisingly well. But for a band that will probably be nothing more than a footnote in nineties alt-rock/hard rock, I don't know why I took such a shine to them. I think they even made their way to the once-legendary Judgment Night soundtrack.

I liked them so much I even managed to see them live at the Trocadero. I couldn't have been more than sixteen.

Therapy? - Hats Off To the Insane. AKA Music. Bargain bin.

Record Store Day

I picked this up on Record Store Day, not because I really needed or wanted it, but I felt like I had to buy something. And pickings were slim.

Tegan and Sara - Saints: Live. Long In the Tooth. New.

Soundtrack

I own the "soundtrack" but I've never actually seen Stop Making Sense. I wonder if it's on Netflix. Probably not, because what is and isn't available streaming never ceases to amaze me.

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense. Amazon.com. Used.

Crush

I have a thing for Tegan and Sara. Fame aside, I'm pretty sure there's no chance of making that happen.

Tegan and Sara - So Jealous. Amazon.com. Used.

Still Around?

Is Texas still around? The band, not the state. We still have the state. For now.

Texas - White On Blonde. Amazon.com. Used.

Overreaction

Spending the weekend listening to FM radio, I was glad to see America's short attention span made "Die Young" appropriate listening once again.

Ke$ha - Warrior. Christmas. New.

The X-Factor

For some reason I never bothered to check out Ellie Goulding. I knew of her, never listened to her.

But once "Anything Could Happen" was covered on The X-Factor, I was hooked.

Ellie Goulding - Halcyon. iTunes.

Better With Age

I've always liked Blacklisted. But the more recent releases are just incredible.

Blacklisted - So, You Are A Magician? Six Feet Under Records. New.

Purchasing Power

I can't decide if I want to buy up all Throwing Muses compact disc releases, or stick to the full-lengths.

It's not the only band I'm having this debate about.

Only time will tell.

Throwing Muses - University. AKA Music. Bargain bin.

Newish

Blacklisted. BBC. I don't know why, but I find this much cooler than most American bands appearing on Radio 1.

Blacklisted - Live on BBC 1: September 2, 2010. Six Feet Under Records. New.

People love Swiz.

But frankly they just don't love them enough.

Wasteful

Apparently I'm all about buying music I already own. Many times over.
