I'd Rather Have the Record

I loved the first seven inch.

I made everyone listen to it.

I eventually sold it for fifty dollars on eBay.

Beer money.

Those two songs continued to be my favorite.

They eluded me. Lazy mostly. Cheap as well.

It took close to ten years to finally replace them.

They sound just as good today.

Thoughts

This album reminds me of Chris King. Former State Representative. And member of my 400 x 800 relay team.

Also.

I saw Juliana Hatfield minus the Three perform outside of the first Lilith Fair. I got to hear the hits. I was satisfied.

Also.

Open to making out with her. Even after Evan Dando.

Page Three

I have to credit Scott with introducing me to Samantha Fox. We were in fifth or sixth grade.

Scott was the first pervert I knew. I mean that in the best way possible.

Samantha Fox. Howard Stern videos. Playboys. Cinemax.

I'd say don't ever change Scott.

But I'm pretty sure you haven't.

R.I.P. Gizmo

I had to put my dog to sleep on Saturday.

It was the hardest decision I've ever made. He was my best friend.

I miss him every day.

I hate that Bella doesn't know where he is. But she knows he isn't here.

He had a full life. He had his share of adventures.

It doesn't make it any easier to look at his spot on the couch.

I will never forget you Gizmo. You were one of a kind.

My words don't do you justice.

Rain - La Vache Qui Rit. Long in the Tooth. Used.

Forever Young

I've been having fun comparing The Psychedelic Furs of the liner notes to The Psychedelic Furs of the live show.

They haven't done too bad for themselves. As aging rockers go.

The Live Experience

I had the pleasure of seeing The Psychedelic Furs a few weeks ago.

It was a strange mix of people.

The most eclectic crowd I've seen at a show outside of a festival.

Many, forgotten by time.

A Jamiroquai hat. Richard Marx hair. Tight rolled jeans. Mohawks. Goths. Elvis glasses.

As for the performance, it was excellent. I'd go again in an instant.

Round Two

Round one featured a greatest hits package of sorts. It helped my cause.

Round two features b-sides and rarities.

It might not help my cause, but my brother should listen to it anyway.

Prove It

My brother claims he only knows two songs by The Psychedelic Furs. I said he knows more than that. He just doesn't know it.

Round one of trying to prove him wrong.

Like Father Like Son

My dad likes to claim he was ahead of the curve on Cream. I have no reason to doubt him.

He also makes the same claim about The Doors.

Before he realized they were shit.

Cream - Disraeli Gears. Best Buy. New.

Wanted: Video Break

I'm trying to find the video in which Shaun William Ryder looks like Brando's Dr. Moreau.

At least that's how I remember it.

Cheating Death

I saw the Happy Mondays for the first time last week.

OK. I'll be honest.

I saw Shaun Ryder for the first time last week.

My expectations were low. I didn't care. I wanted to see the Mondays. Any version.

The buy one get one free ticket deal was an added incentive. Although with the service fees I ended up saving all of ten dollars.

I enjoyed the performance. Much more than I thought I would.

Some things old. Some things new. And some things Black Grape.

Reunited and It Feels So Good

If John Lydon insisted on tarnishing the reputation of one of his bands for the better part of the past decade, why couldn't it have been P.I.L.?

I would have gone to those shows.

"A White Guy Who Sounds Like Stevie Wonder"

That quote convinced me to check out their debut. I was able to look past the hat.

And yes. I know this isn't their debut.

"My Prediction? Pain."

Clubber Lang - Varsity Violence.

New Zealand

I read about them in a New Zealand magazine. While in New Zealand.

I purchased the album in a New Zealand record shop. Also while in New Zealand.

Of the thirty-plus compact discs I purchased during my visit, it remains one of my favorites.

Since then I'm pretty sure they signed to Sub Pop. I believe they released a few more albums. I haven't heard any of them.

They also played Philadelphia.

I thought about going. I didn't.

Like so many shows.

It Takes Two

I didn't particularly like Marion the first time I listened to them.

This was two weeks ago.

I gave them a second listen in the car. I'm glad I did.

Some bands take more time than others.

No Snooze

For a year, maybe two, I was jolted awake by the sounds of Junior Senior.

Then Cathy got a new phone.

Thank you new phone.

Junior Senior - Hey Hey My My Yo Yo (Disc 1). Say Hello, Wave Goodbye EP (Disc 2). Long in the Tooth. Used.

History Club

I bought my first Curve album during a History Club trip to Boston.

It might have been Washington D.C.

Yes, History Club. Day trips. Overnight trips. Co-ed. In high school, what's not to like about that?

I saw Cuckoo at Tower Records. I knew nothing about the band. I noticed the album was produced by Flood. I knew Flood produced Nine Inch Nails.

Purchased.

For the longest time I thought the band's name was Curve Cuckoo. This being their self-titled album.

It took about a year until I cleared that up.

Curve - Come Clean. Amazon.com. Used.

Good People

I had heard plenty of things about Bad Kid before actually meeting him.

The hype did not live up to the reality.

It's been a while since I last saw him.

I hope he is doing well.

I must ask about him the next time I see his brother. Usually at a Robes show.

Pure Pop

They have an inordinate amount of songs mentioning "blue." At least that seems to be the case.
