Reunited

Think Tank, the post-Graham Coxon Blur endeavor was, for the most part, average at best.

Except for the Coxon co-penned "Battery In Your Leg."

It is one of my favorite Blur songs.

When I think about that song it makes me even more excited for his "return." Not that I'll ever spend the money to see them live. Abroad or stateside.

For some reason I was convinced I would have trouble tracking down their albums.

This was some time around 1997.

On a trip to Montreal I came across Life during my obligatory out-of-town compact disc shopping. A highlight of any trip. Regardless of city, state, country.

I thought this was an unbelievable score. It wasn't.

Over the next year I realized I hadn't been searching that hard for their releases. I began to see Life with some regularity. Apparently I had been shopping at the wrong stores.

When I started to use eBay, it became even easier to pick up their catalog.

And now with Amazon.com, I continue to work at completing the discography.

Like Camper Van Beethoven, another band I should have listened to long before I ever did.

The first time being last week.

I always knew of them. I just had never heard them.

Talk about missing out.

The initial solo releases from each member of The Wu-Tang Clan are so good. Most equal to Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

To a point.

Personally I began to lose interest by the time the U-God and Inspectah Deck released their albums.

But Method Man, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon. I can't get enough of those first releases.

Sadly the follow ups are a lot more hit or miss, not unlike The Wu-Tang Clan as a whole.

A Select magazine purchased sometime around 1999-2001 came with a compilation compact disc.

This was common. And introduced me to a number of bands, both domestic and overseas.

This particular compilation featured Alpinestars. I took an immediate interest in them. They were added to page one of my three page "things to buy" list. Items were added alphabetically. Searching from A-Z or Z-A depending on the week.

I would come across B.A.S.I.C. on occasion. Passing it over due to cost.

Alpinestars continued to sit towards the top of the list. Year after year.

Eventually the list became unwieldy. It was broken down into multiple lists, each utilized depending on my musical moods.

My need for Alpinestars faded away.

They were forgotten until a bi-weekly bargain bin hunt put them into my hand. The price was right. I had to make the purchase.
