California

What did I know about Nardcore and Mystic Records?

Until recently, absolutely nothing.

Incredibly lame on my part.

2010

There was a three year period I made sure I always bought the Kylie Minogue calendar.

My tastes are my tastes.

I feel like I gave the old ones to somebody.

If true, I regret this.

I should get into the practice of purchasing them again.

Easily Confused

I never know if it's a 10,000 Maniacs song or a Natalie Merchant song.

It doesn't matter.

But I doubt I'll ever be able to make the distinction.

The Long Term Outlook

I'm sorry. But U2 stole the glory that rightly belongs to you.

It might be too late to reclaim it.

You should still try.

Although a Google Image Search Left Me Disappointed for the Most Part

I knew her before the music.

I thought she was Catatonia. Not a member. A name.

She got her share of press.

For obvious reasons.

Making Up

I'm doing my best to make up for lost time. Making up for my unintentional ignorance.

At this rate I'll have the Shed Seven discography, excluding singles, by the end of 2009.

A throw away Britpop band for most.

Long overdue for me. Total appreciation.

Shed Seven - A Maximum High. Amazon.com. Used.

Collector

I don't buy a lot of vinyl.

Occasionally I'll pick something up if I know someone in the band.

Even when I did buy a lot of vinyl I was never a collector. In fact, I've sold most of what I once owned.

That being said. I'd spend just about anything on a Chung King.

If I had the money and/or disposable income.

Fast Favorite

I decided I liked Echobelly after reading about them in Vox.

I hadn't heard them yet. Why bother with a listen?

They were female fronted. Pretty female fronted. I was on board.

I'm happy they delivered. Even if they hadn't. I wouldn't have told anyone.

Dance-Country

For the longest time I steered clear of the post-I Say, I Say, I Say output.

It was my understanding that they had "gone country."

They had. For an album or two.

After receiving the videography for Christmas one year I realized I had been missing out on a lot of great material.

Electronic and non-electronic alike.

Erasure. Amazon.com. Used.

Post-Projects

I like Slowdive.

Not Mojave 3.

I can't remember why. At this point I can't even remember what they sound like.

My mind tells me they probably sound like Maroon 5.

I know this isn't true.

Although I'd be lying if I said I was sure of that.

Video Lust

I'd like to thank Van Halen, Huey Lewis and The News and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Your videos were pure magic to an eight year old boy.

All of you opened my eyes to a world beyond Princess Leia.

Again. Thank you.

Oh...Not Jim

Spring-heeled Jim winks an eye
He'll "do", he'll never be "done to"
He takes on whoever flew through
"Well, it's the normal thing to do" ... ah ...

Spring-heeled Jim lives to love
Now kissing with his mouth full
And his eyes on some other fool
So many women
His head should be spinning
Ah, but no!
Ah, but no!
But no!
Ah, no!

Spring-heeled Jim slurs the words :
"There's no need to be so knowing
Take life at five times the
Average speed, like I do"
Until Jim feels the chill
"Oh, where did all the time go?"

Once always in for the kill
Now it's too cold
And he feels too
old
Too old
Mmm, old...

La, la, la, la-la, la ...

Lazy

I ripped this from a friend a few years ago.

I never bothered to add the tracks until last week.

Of course this was after I uploaded the file.

1. I Want to Be Rich
2. Passionfruit
3. Crying for You
4. The Distance Machine
5. Smile

Major

I thought it was great that they signed to a major label.

By that point I was pretty much done with complaining about bands "selling out."

All part of growing up I suppose.

I thought they had a real chance. I thought they were very accessible.

I thought wrong.

Shift - Get In.

Rave Up

I still can't decide if I made the right call by leaving behind the ninety-nine cent 2 Unlimited disc.

After listening to O3 and getting nostalgic, I think the answer is "no."

Shady

It boggles the mind that Revelation Records ever let You're Only Young Once... go out of print.

Lost and Found was there to fill the bootleg demand.

And there was demand. I don't know why Revelation waited so long to re-release a lot of those early releases.

Some of them still haven't made their way to compact disc. I'm sure they have their reasons. That doesn't make me want the Warzone seven inch on CD any less.
